A truly fascinating look at some of the more mundane aspects of life in the classical world. It's altogether too easy to assume that the world of Socrates was pretty much like our own, and of course it's totally wrong to do so. The classical Greeks inhabited a world where daily reality bore little resemblance to our own scientific humanistic outlook, and this book forces the person trying to make sense of classical authors to confront the differences inherent in the process. Easy to read, easy to understand, a must read.
