An FBI Agent enlists the help of an archaeologist and a reporter, to track down a serial killer who has been stalking his prey since the late-19th century. When a real-estate developer demolishes a building and finds victims of a murderer who killed by tearing out their spinal columns, the three team up to pursue the evil behind the acts.
First, it wasn't until just now when about to write this review and looking the book up on Amazon, that I discovered that this is the 3rd book where these characters meet up to solve a crime. And while crime/horror are long behind me as entertainment, I am definitely going to look into getting the other books.
This was a great, on-the-edge-of-your-seat tale! The authors, and the reader, that superb Rene Auberjonois, bring you so well into the 19th century parts of the story that you'd swear you could smell the dust. Sure, you think you've got the story figured out, but the best thing then happens: you find out you were wrong. And, another plus, no time is wasted in romance between/among the principles, even though there is a relationship between two of them. This is all tragic tale of science, torture, depraved mankind, and will keep you turning the pages or with the headphones glued to your ears.
