I'm only a few chapters in (no murder yet), and I'm on the fence as to whether to continue... anyone read it and give it huge thumbs up?  Will the characters grow on me?

I haven't yet.  I have the entire series on Mt. TBR though so I hope it gets better.  :O)

I read the first one...it was okay, nothing spectacular. I thought maybe the characters would grow on me, too, but they really were pretty much unmemorable. I read about six or seven chapters (short) in the second book and gave up. I'd already figured out the plot and whodunit, and the clues seemed to painted in bright red. LOL The constant pre-occupation with people's appearance, clothes and with descriptions of food drove me nuts. Yeah, I know...that's what the series is about, a diet club. But still. I had the third one here too but traded it off unopened.

ruh roh Shaggy!

I better dig out the first one and try it before the most recent one hits my WL.  No use wasting a credit.  :O)

Guess I'm in the minority...because I really liked it...and the second one.  The third one is on my wishlist.

Right now, I'm actually reading the third one from the "Molly Appleby" series, by the same author.

Susan - I really enjoy the Molly Appleby series.  So maybe I'll like the other as well.  And considering I don't really care about antiques (Molly) but I'm overweight for sure (Carbs), that is saying something.  LOL

I read a little more today (another 2 chapters) and am starting to get into it more.  I have this problem of reading 2 or 3 really good books, then have a slump of things that I would like otherwise, if I weren't still thinking about the books I just finished :)

odd follow up question- the back of my book says "recipes inside" but when I flip through I don't see any. are they hidden in the middle of latter chapters?

I like them- it took me awhile to get into the first one, but I am glad I stuck with it- they get better as time goes on
