An absolutely enthralling story of Nathaniel Bowditch, who went from an indentured servant as a teenager to one of the most well-known and brilliant men who changed the course of navigation (pun intended).

Very inspiring story of a young man's journey to better himself as well as an interesting glimpse of sailing in the 1770's.

My son and I did this as a read-aloud. We both enjoyed it, and he was particularly struck by Nate Bowditch's life, so different to that of most people.

Loved this book. It is a great book about self-education, drive and determination. I read it to my homeschooled girls ages 12,9,7 but all kids would enjoy it. I still like reminding my girls to "sail by ash breeze."
