Carved in Stone - Ranch Rogues - Western Lovers, No 6
Author: Kathleen Eagle
THE LAST ACTION HERO — Sky Hunter was no silver-screen stereotype of an American Indian. He was the real thing: full-blooded Sioux -- and as rugged as the Rocky Mountains he called home. Years of "playing" cowboys and Indians in "Tinseltown" had left him aching for HIS land -- for the feel of earth between his fingers and open...  more »

FROM THE BACK COVER: "Sky Hunter left Hollywood and headed for the hills. The serenity of the Rockies would clear his mind and help him make some hard decisions. He didn't expect to run head-on into the only woman for him.

Author Elaina Delacourte went to the mountains for research, but with Sky's help she ended up learning about real life, not fiction. Stranded together, they should have thought strictly of survival, but the fury of the elements they fought was matched ony by the force of the love they were beginning to share."

This was one of my first Kathleen Eagle books, and for me, at least, it's a "keeper." I have read it often over the years. Sky Hunter is an actor who came home to make some some important career decisions - whether to continue playing "caricature" Indians and risk a fairly steady income or to take less available roles with the opportunity to play "real" Indian heroes in quality films. Elaina Delacourte is a romance writer on vacation at a "dude" ranch to do research for her next western novel.

Sky and Elaina are instantly attracted to one another, and when a plane "buzzes" their horses, they are stranded in the wilderness with just a few supplies and each other to make the journey home. I won't give away the story, but as the days pass and Sky and Elaina work their way back to the ranch, their relationship deepens - until they are rescued by Sky's relatives from the ranch. Will Sky and Elaina overcome their pasts, their present, and will they have a future? Read the book!! Published in 1987, this is still a great book by one of my favorite authors!!

I just remember loving the Native male lead character and his struggles with reconnecting with his culture.
