ISBN 188794222x - Hooked on Phonics books are piling up all over my house, so it's time to read, review and re-home them. It's turning out to be an enlightening activity!

Author/illustrator Barney Saltzberg does a very good job of keeping the text as simple as the title of this book. The text has a limited number of words and they are all very small words, which makes this a good first reader. My only complaint is not a big one - the illustrations are simple black and white and look a lot like coloring book pages. This is the case for all 15 of the Kindergarten level books in this series, so it's clearly intentional - I just find it unattractive.

I highly recommend the entire Hooked on Phonics series. My son is only four and is already starting to read and has mastered the first 5 Hooked on Phonics books. It makes teaching your child to read dummy proof!
