Cat Traps - Step-Into-Reading, Step 1 Author:Molly Coxe Cat wants a snack. Cat sets a trap. Cat gets...in trouble! Simple sentences and snappy illustrations make this a purr-fect first step into the joy of reading.
I'm a grandma helping a kindergartener learn to read, and this book is a very big hit. He can read some words, and in this series (Step into Reading) the pictures "tell" the rest of the story. For example, the text says "Cat wants a snack." while the pictures show us WHAT snack the cat wants: a frog, or a chicken, a squirrel and so on. "Cat sets a trap." and the pictures show how this trap is supposed to work. "Cat gets ..." in each case the cat gets something, but it isn't what the cat had in mind, until the happy ending which involes his person providing some chow. At the delightful point in learning to read where a child first can read simple sentences, the books in this series set the child up to succeed. Highly recommended.
