I laughed, I cried - the final chapter in the 'Norton Trilogy' is a must-read for anyone who has read (or heard) about The Cat Who Went to Paris.

I cried a river while reading this book, but in the end, Gethers' sums it up nicely with these words: "...mostly what I remember about my cat is how much better my life is because he was in it."

Having lost MY beloved cat, who never traveled as wide and far as Norton did, but was nonetheless special to me, those words also ring true.

Thank you Peter Gethers for sharing the story of a remarkable cat named Norton. Those of us lucky enough to be owned by cats will recognise some of lessons Norton taught you as those taught to us by our cats.

If you're an animal lover, don't even think of reading this book without a box of tissues handy! Wonderful, sad... a moving testimony to the love the author had for his cat, and one many people can relate to.

Being a cat person, I was instantly drawn to this book when I randomly stumbled upon it at the library. During the first half of the story, I was wondering why I had bothered to start reading it. By the second half, I knew why. It is a very touching story about the life and loss of a best friend, who just happens to be a cat. I don't think I have cried more while reading a book.

The first half seemed more like a travel memoir. The author went into more detail about the places he went and the food he ate than about his relationship with Norton, his furry friend. I also disliked how Gethers would constantly drop names of the famous people he met or worked with. Maybe this made the story more interesting to some people, but I found it distracting and superfluous.

Some aspects of the relationship between Norton and Gethers were so similar to the bond between my first cat and myself, that it was difficult to see the pages through tears at some points in the story. This book made me remember things about my cat that had become clouded in my memory over the years.

Any cat lover should read this and the rest of the Norton trilogy.

I read the Norton series in order. I gave Book 1 three stars, Book 2 two. The third book is a lot harder for me to rate. I read the last book about a year or so ago. I cried at the end. I didn't write a review then because I was uncertain how to rate it. I was inclined to give it five stars--not because the entire book was worthy of five stars but because the last couple chapters made up for the rest of the book. Recently, I reread the last couple chapters--starting right around when Norton first became ill until he died. Once again I cried. Although I am still unsure of what rating this book should get, I'm giving it five stars because of how it affected me emotionally.
