Jacob Taverner, is a millionaire, and decides he wants to meet all the family he has never seen at an old inn called "the Catherine-Wheel. This is when the trouble starts. This book was printed in 1949, and has stood the test of time well. I have just about found, and read all of Wentworth's "Miss Silver" books. They remind me a lot of Miss Marple

An excellent mystery which kept me picking it up again and again and ignoring the other books I was also reading.

I had no idea who was what until toward the end of the book when Miss Silver asked questions of a landlady and I realized what-was-what with one character. Still the main crook was a shock to me.

Spoiler: There is a very prominent "red herring" in this one. Don't be fooled like I was.

I was also wondering why it is Patricia Wentworth often has first cousins eventually marrying in her books. Not something I would recommend. In this book she fooled me. She and the other authors of her era are so much better than most NYT "best selling" mystery writers today. Thank God I still have so many of her books to read yet.
