I had a hard time putting this book down. Couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. A good read that I'd recommend to anyone. This ws my first book by this author and I plan on reading more of her stories.
Kate and Richard have the perfect marriage. The only flaw, is their inabilityto have a child. The adoption agency's call fullfills that dream...and opens the door to a nightmare.
Julianna Starr has secretly chosen the Ryan's to adopt her child. She has even molded herself in Kate's image and places herself in Richard's life.
From Julianna's past comes a man that is filled with unspeakabe evil.
Now no one is safe from this man. Not even the innocent child.
Julianna Starr, pregnant and alone, decides to run away from the man who would destroy her life. One the run and scared for her life, she focuses on a couple that would adopt her baby. But what the couple doesn't know is that Julianna wants more than just her baby being adopted.
A young woman is pregnant and on the run from the baby's father (she has learned that he is a killer for hire). She leaves wealth and privilege behind for the seedy side of New Orleans. She plans to give her baby up for adoption. While choosing a couple to adopt the baby, she becomes obsessed with the husband, and begins to emulate the wife, trying to destroy the marriage.
This book is very reminiscent of the movie "The Hand that Rocks the Cradle": obsessed young woman, beautiful young family, scary stalker element. This book adds a little more to the mix though, including the CIA, a hit man, a well-known novelist, and murder. A good story, but a little predictable. Not Spindler's best work, but satisfying nonetheless.
Erica Spindler writes tremendous intrigue. The ingenue in each novel is a young to mid-thirties woman facing a known or unknown crisis... personal and career wise, usually...if you like great suspense/murder mystery novels, you will love Erica Spindler. The characters are all well developed, and you will find yourself wishing that the novel wouldn't end.
Spindler's latest romantic suspense (after Shocking Pink) moves fast and takes no prisoners. Kate and Richard Ryan, the perfect couple (money, good looks, successful power careers, great house on Lake Pontchartrain), adopt a baby girl to make their lives complete. Unbeknownst to them, the birth mother, Julianna, a young woman on the run from her ex-lover, CIA contract-killer John Powers, is more than a tad unhinged. Unable to tear herself from the beautiful lives of the Ryans, Julianna falls for Richard and becomes his mistress. Meanwhile, baby Emma fulfills Kate's life in a way material success never could. But Powers is closing in on all of them, vowing bloody revenge, and Kate finds herself turning to old boyfriend Luke Dallas, bestselling author of detective stories, for aid and comfort. Though marred by an occasionally clunky prose style, Spindler's newest is an intriguing look into the twisted mind of someone for whom murder is simply a business.
Kate and Richard Ryan have the perfect marriage -- marred only by their inability to have a child. The adoption agency's call fulfills that dream . . . and opens the door to a nightmare . . .
CAUSE FOR ALARM.
Julianna Starr has chosen Kate and Richard to be more than the parents of her child. For Richard is the man of her fantasies, the one she's been waiting for. Stalking the couple, Julianna molds herself in Kate's image and insinuates herself into Richard's life, determined to tear their perfect marriage apart.
But for Kate and Richard, the nightmare has only begun. Because Julianna is not alone. From her dark past comes a man of unspeakable evil . . .
No one is safe -- not even the innocent child Kate and Richard call their own.
