If you post what your RCs are, we'd be able to help better, LOL.

Sorry - the enter key entered before I was ready.

My RCS are:

Will not accept books with ANY water or liquid damagae or any soiled, stained or moldy books.

Please make sure that there are not loose pages in the book.

I got turned down for a WLd book and the sender stated:

Thank you, but I prefer not to trade books with people who have issues about conditions.  This is a highly collectibel book and it has some issues.

Pat

I think you are ok as is..you are basically restating the conditions for PBS....it might be repeating your self.  I would use RC for anything over and above the PBS conditions.

Thanks - the main reason I restated the PBS rules was that I'd gotten several books with pages that were falling out, so felt that if I repeated the basic rules I might not get books that didn't meet the guidelines (and so far I've been ok).  Pat

I don't think restating would have gotten you that book, just having an RC on the condition of the book has this sender denying the request. That's what you risk having RC,s some people just won't trust sending a book to someone with RCs.

I don't think you need to change them.  It's possible that the book was borderline, and the sender didn't want to take a chance.  In that case your Rc did what it was supposed to do and you avoided getting a book you don't want.  There are also people who deny most or all RCs on principle.  I know, I think twice about them.  Yours wouldn't bother me, though if I had a book with cheap wavy pages that weren't water damaged I might hesitate to accept because of the all caps ANY.  That's my paranoia, though :)

I don't know. I kind of find it annoying when people restate the posting guidelines in RCS.  I only send out postable books and so I find it kind of annoying to be reminded of them before I accept a request.

I'd be concerned about the tone.  "will not accept"?   Phrase it more like the second line,  "Please, no books with..."  The "Will not" would raise my concerns about being labeled RWAP.

And remember, it is easy to turn the RC off if you are in line to get an older or out of print wish list book.  Just go to settings under my account.

I think the 'will not' comes from examples given in the Help Center.  At least examples containing that phrase (or 'not willing') used to be in the Help Center.  I also once found the tone of 'will not'  or 'not willing' to be off-putting, but when I realized that it was suggested that peeps use the phrase, I was more comfortable with it.

I wouldn't have a problem with your RCs, Pat.

Based on that reply, I'd say your conditions worked. I certainly wouldn't describe a postable book as having "issues".

Thanks everyone.  As I said above, I've only basically restated the PBS guidelines (in case someone hasn't read the rules) because I got 3 books in a row that didn't meet the guidelines (I did get my credits back).  I also was concerned that a postable book should have 'issues'.  It was a WLd book, so will probably be back in the system, and unfortunately someone will get it.  Pat

Howdy Pat.

I recently got a request for a WL book that when I pulled it out to make sure before accepting, I had to say that it didnt meet PBS guidelines and why. The person still wanted the book!  I sent it along with a book that the person COULD post.

I'm too worried about getting another PBSer mad when they have RC's like yours. I generally turn them down, even if the book is okay.

On another note, are ya gonna be able to make the Kansas meet - up? I sent you a PM and if you didn't get it, let me know.

Charity

My RCS are:

Will not accept books with ANY water or liquid damagae or any soiled, stained or moldy books.

Please make sure that there are not loose pages in the book.

Possible version:

Please double check your book to make sure there is no liquid damage, soils, stains, mold or loose pages hidden inside.

THe issues the book could have could just be minor stuff that still makes it postable: some dog earred pages, some wear to the cover etc.., This person is probaby just wary of getting dinged for somethign minor and since it's wL they'd rather pass it on to the next person.

I'm not saying that  you would do that but that's how might come off to them.

I recently added RC's that are basically the same as yours after having gotten about 10 unpostables in the last 6mo.  I haven't requested any books since though, so I don't know how they'll go over.
