Overall, I enjoyed this book, but one thing wasn't as I expected -- this is the _author's_ literal experience at the tour, not so much a "live" review at the race, and not so much about Armstrong as I expected. It's the author's personal musings on the tour really.

This book is at times actually "laugh out loud" funny, but it's kind of crude humor at times (like when he's talking about how priapic the stage winners usually are).

Anyhow, I enjoyed this, but if you're looking for a "live" review of the tour, you might try out Wilcockson's books. Otherwise, give this one a try. :)

If you think this book will offer you insights into Lance Armstrong, you would be mistaken. If, however, you want to know what it is like to follow the three-week carnival of sport that is the Tour de France, then this book is for you. Martin Dugard takes the reader behind the scenes and inside the security barriers, as it were, of this test of man and bike. You can read on these pages things you may never have known about this increasingly popular annual event.
