The Children's Book is one of the best contemporary novels I've read in nearly a decade. The richness and complexity of the plot and character development are evocative of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's best writing. I'm a fast reader, and I was pleased to be able to make this last through nearly two weeks of nightly reading. Byatt includes enough fact to set a beautiful stage for her novel. Very satisfying read.
