Series #11. Fun series about a caterer who also solves mysteries in Colorado. The characters are enjoyable and believable (except for finding dead bodies all the time)and are interesting to follow their lives.
There are even recipes for you to try.

This was a good story. I worked in mall management once, so it was fun to read a story with that setting. Arch's attitude problem was starting to get annoying, Goldy needs to not be such a pushover! LOL! I definitely think this series has gotten better with each book.

This was the first of the series I read. I enjoyed the mystery, but thought the book took a little too long to get where it was going; it would have been better as a shorter book. I also don't like it when a writer leads you through several (and I do mean several) twists and turns and then wraps it all up in a page of action and 5 pages of conversation among characters explaining everything. I'd give it a 6.5 or 7 out of 10.

(Also annoying is the recipes plunked down in the middle of a chapter instead of at the end, so it disrupts the reading process. I know this is the publisher's decision, not the writer, but it's distracting and a mistake.)

Amazon.com:
When Colorado caterer Goldy Schulz is hired by her old friend Barry Dean to provide a lavish buffet for the opening of his chic new Aspen Meadows mall, the last thing she expects to stumble over is Barry himself, stabbed to death with one of her very own carving knives. When the police arrest her assistant, Julian, for the murder, Goldy launches her own over-caffeinated investigation. There's enough espresso in this culinary cozy to keep the reader wide awake while Davidson's irrepressible heroine sets up the suspects, solves the mystery, sends up a Shopaholics Anonymous meeting, and dishes up 10 recipes for fabulous party food, including the Chopping Spree salad of the title. The plot's somewhat creaky and there's hardly any dramatic tension, but fans of this popular series won't mind a bit.

I liked the book, but the clues are NOT obvious (Except for one in the beginning). So figuring out who did it is not as easy or enjoyable as it is in the other books.

Colorado caterer, Goldie Schultz' business is skyrocketing. Her friend, Marla, warns, "Success can kill you." Goldie realizes the need to slow down before she breaks down although she struggles with trying to "make hay while the sun shines." She plans to slow down right after her next cocktail party booking at the Westside Mall's Elite Shoppers Club.

Goldy is hired by the mall manager to cater the jewel-encrusted affair. But when she begins to set up her food entrees, she is nearly run over by a huge truck. She and Barry are nearly crushed underneath it.

Muddied and bruised, she carries on her job. She polishes off the catering party with a flair despite a fight among the guests and a near mishap with food. Only things are about to get a lot worse when Goldie's best carving knife is found in the back of Mall Manager Barry Dean. Could things get worse? You haven't heard the half of it . . . yet!

Hours later, Julian is the prime suspect in the murder. To prove Julians innocence, Goldy must catch the real killer. But to do that, she will have to figure out why the victim was carrying a powerful narcotic. And why was a private investigator called in shortly before the murder?
