Christian Denomination Quiz

I found this interesting.  I go to a non-denominational church, so I don't really know what, if any denominations my beliefs match up with.  My top three results were:

  1. Mennonite Brethren
  2. Southern Baptist
  3. Orthodox Quakerism

I guess I'm not surprised at the Mennonite Brethren part.  The church I go to is affiliated with the Mennonite Brethren.  I'm not sure about the Southern Baptist part.  I'm guessing that's because I believe baptism is important, although not necessary for salvation.

What's everyone elses results?  Is it what you thought it would be?

I'm pretty set in my ways, so it didn't surprise me that my results came up Southern Baptist as my #1 match, They were followed, by quite a margin, by Assemblies of God and Free Will Baptist. I don't have any experience with either of those, but they clearly believe similarly to me. That was fun.

Michelle, what are some of the Southern Baptist beliefs that set them apart?  I have a friend whose husband is a pastor at a Baptist church, and she says their worship services are very similar to ours (at my non-denom church), except the music is a little bit slower and softer.  Of course, I don't know if their baptist church is a southern baptist one or not.

We aren't slow and soft....not my church, anyway. We clap, and sing, and get into our services! =D I don't know what sets them apart from other Baptists though, because I'm not educated in other Baptists. =)

We believe that the Bible is the infallible word of God, spoken to man.

we believe in a physical ressurrection.

We believe in salvation through Jesus Christ by faith.

We believe once saved, always saved.

We believe that baptism by immersion shows obedience, but is not a salvation issue.

My church has a live band (some churches / denominations use only piano / harp / a capella / hymns. We singhymns and contemporary praise & worship songs.

Uh...I can't think of anything else. I'll try to answer any questions, if anyone has any. My church is not "southern Baptist" it's just Baptist though.

What Michelle posted pretty well describes a southern Baptist too.   At least all the ones I've been to in the past 5 years or so.     I was surprized that Baptist was 4th on my list since I have attended one (not always southern) most of my life.     Methodist was #1 for me - hmmm who knew?  lol

Interesting quiz - irriatating going through all the pages to finally get to the results.

Michelle, her church wasn't necessarily slow and soft.  They have a live band, but I think ours just rocks out a little harder. :D  Sometimes I wonder what the older people at our church think of the music.  I'm sure it's not what they're used to, or at least not what they grew up with.

The beliefs you listed pretty much match up with mine.  I suspect many Christian denominations are the same, as far as basic beliefs go.  I'm not sure which questions on that quiz were pivotal in deciding what denomination you matched closest with.

For anyone who hasn't taken the quiz yet, you don't have to page through all those extra pages to get to your results, just click the thing at the top that says something like "to go directly to your results, click here".

Deborah, what results to you get?  I go to a non-denominational church as well, but I think it's interesting still, to see what denominations my beliefs match up with.  I honestly don't think denomination matters, but I like to learn about the differences in different churches.

My top four were:

Assembly of God

Free Will Baptist (not familiar with this one!)

Church of Christ

Mennonite Brethren

My hubby was raised Lutheran, and I was born again at age 16 and started attending a Foursquare Gospel church, but since we've been married we've attended mostly non-denominational/charismatic type churches.  Having said that, we're currently attending a Baptist church.  (Hey, we've moved a lot!)  We're in a very rural area, so there's not as much choice as in a large city.  But I think what really matters is finding some fellowship, as long as we agree on "the basics"! =0)

Mine came up

1.   Mennonite Brethren

2.   Free Will Baptist

3.   Seventh-Day Adventist

I find it really strange because I am a Seventh-Day Adventist and the MAJOR difference is the day of worship.  I believe that Christ never changed the day to keep holy...even in the tomb He rested.  Wound Never consider worshipping on any other day.

Personally I think the test is a bit off...

Well, I'm definitely Baptist!

  1. Southern Baptist
  2. Freewill Baptist
  3. Reformed Baptist

I actually am a member of a small Independent Baptist Church, but I was saved and raised in a Southern Baptist Church.

That was a fun quiz, Brenda.  Thanks for posting that.

I came up with

#1 PCA/OPC - (these are conservative Presbyterians)

#2 Reformed (which is the flavor of our current denomination but are VERY similar to the above.  We almost joined an OPC church when we moved...very very close)

#3 Presbyterian USA (these are liberal Presbyterians and I'm not sure which answer I gave that had this one pop up...certainly not my response on women in the ministry Hmm?)

#4 Reformed Baptist (curious given my response on infant baptism)

#5 Southern Baptist (this is the denomination I was born and raised in...hubby and I took a spiritual journey these last 6 years or so which ended in our current Calvinistic beliefs but I was a HUGE fan of Quaker, Richard Foster for quite a while.  God apparently had different plans for us)

Fun Quiz!

Interesting. I too go to a non-denominational church. The church itself has Assemblies of God roots, but our current pastor is a lifelong Baptist. I was raised in the Baptist church.

1. Mennonite Bretheren (which I had never heard of until I took this quiz0

2. Southern Baptist

3. Assemblies of God

When I read over mission statements of different churches, I tend to gravitate toward a non-denominational church most of the time

I wasn't too surprised with my results.  My #1 was Assemblies of God which is where I went to church most of my childhood and teenage years.  My #2 was Southern Baptist which is the type of church I attend now.

mine came out seventh day adventist for #1..not sure what I answered wrong 'cause I've never been that denomination and never had any desire to be that denomination...I was raised methodist which was  my #4 and the last church I attended regularly was non-denominational...maybe that's why I'm having such a hard time finding the right church? I'm gonna have to read up on stuff...
