In my hometown, there was a shooting today at a UU church. I posted about it in the CMT section. I am still in shock and disbelief. The church where the shooting took place is really close to my house, my church, and the area where my DH works.

My Prayers are with your church family and your town!  My husband told me about this shortly after I got home from church yesterday, and even then I prayed that God would heal any hurt and be with those in the church to give them strength and courage to get through this ordeal.  I will continue to pray for you, please keep us posted on any other specific prayer requests for your church and your family and town!

In Christ,

Terri Lynn

Pat,

I am also a Pat from Tennessee:)  I read about the shooting online this morning and prayed for the families that this is affecting.  I will pray for your community...just can't imagine the horror of it all.  I read a quote once that has given me comfort over the years.  Perhaps it will be a bit of a help for you during this tragic time ..."Safety is not in the absence of danger, but in the presence of the Lord."  Bad things do happen to good people, but God is still a very present help in times of trouble.

God Bless,

-Pat

Pat- glad to see another Tennessee gal posting!

Terri- it is not my church, I attend a COG church. However, this church is very close to my home and my husband's work. Everybody here is just stunned and hurting that such a thing could occur here. A trial is getting ready to start for several people who carjacked a young engaged couple, tortured them and then murdered them. It is going to pull considerable national news attention due to some of the details and events. These two occurences so close together is painful for our community.

I remember hearing about that couple, how awful. I'm glad they caught the person(s) responsible.

this church shooting is horrible. then to read about "why" this man did this. because this is a very liberal church, which support gay rights among many other liberal issues, this man decided that people had to die. obviously most people who attend Christian church have differing views but murder is wrong no matter the supposed reason behind it. i hope the shooter gets everything he deserves here on earth and then when he dies and then God will take care of the rest.

Pat N.,

I pray that the Lord will bring your community peace and that these situations will be used to bring people and families closer to Him.

Peace & Comfort To You.

Sorry for the mistake Pat N., I misunderstood what I read, should read more carefully!

Nevertheless, I will continue to pray.  I too was so devastated as to the reason for the shooting....we do not have the right to be judge, juror and executioner, this is God's job!  What we should be doing is praying for God's guidance and wisdom for those who are very liberal in their beliefs.  God loves all people, it is the sin that is not tolerated, we too should love all people and pray that God will deliver them from the sin they are in and live a life of righteousness according to God's word.  I feel so bad for this church and all it has gone throught in these few days, but God can bring about wonderful things, even through tradegy.

Pat V.~ Thanks for sharing that quote "..."Safety is not in the absence of danger, but in the presence of the Lord." , I found that to be very profound, I will write this in the back of my Bible so I can always remember it!

I second the thank you for the quote, Pat V.  Sometimes I tend to forget the truth of it. I am also going to write it in my Bible.

The shooting news was sad indeed.

On a side note, I am a fellow Tennessean!
