I have read several WWII books including "the Longest Day" and this is a true gem! It wasn't as cohesive as Band of Brother's, more a grouping of a lot of stories and activities that happened from d-day to v-e-day and a bit beyond there. You can tell that Ambrose did his homework for this one, inspite of the allegations of plagarism.

Ambrose tells the story of the American soilder from D-Day to Berlin in an engaging and comprehensive way. Easy to follow and complete with first-hand accounts, this is one of the best books written about WWII in Europe.
