This is not a cozy! This is a gritty, realistic police story. To me City of Fire, by Thomas Fitzsimmons is simply fantastic. The depiction and dialogue of the characters, especially the policeman/actor Michael Beckett, his partner Vince D'Amato and the sleazy, evil criminals, will keep you turning each page.

The pace and action level are first class adventure all the way. Good guys, bad guys, dumb guys and everything in-between. I won't spoil the ending, but I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as I did. It left me a bit breathless.

The book is filled with twists and turns as well as interesting and varied characters. It tells an outstanding story that will give you a candid insight of what greed can do to the human psyche in some, creating an insatiable appetite for money and lack of even an iota of compassion for others. In contrast to the fearless determination and courage it takes in others to halt the bloodshed of innocent lives, an equally insatiable appetite.

Fitzsimmons intermingled wit and humor in addition to a touch of romance into this genuinely enjoyable read. This is an outstanding work, and I hope there are more!

Follow Michael Beckett as he goes from cop to tv show Law and Order and still be a cop that gets involved with arsonist. Written like you can just see it 'on the screen' like a movie, very good

Ten-year veteran Michael Becket has decided that he wants to quit police work and act full-time, after landing a role on a popular tv cop show. Between the rough streets of NY and his volatile partner, he's had enough. Then he gets caught up in investigating a string of fires in supposedly empty buildings and finds that he can't just walk away.
