After reading the Sherlock Holmes stories I picked up Some Danger Involved by Will Thomas. I am really enjoying it. Thomas uses many of the same tactics that Doyle did in his stories. My question to the forum is: Did any classic writers or novels lead you to explore some of the modern works that they inspired?

Jane Eyre. I liked it so much I read Wide Sargasso Sea. WSS was pretty good.

After reading The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, I went back to re-read Hamlet.  Of course, being dense, I didn't make the connection while reading ES.  But, after reading comments, I found that it does follow Hamlet's storyline.  I'm also planning to read The Three Weissmans of Westport which has been compared to Austin's Sense and Sensibility.

Cold Mountain and The Odessey. I don't think I'll ever read The O, though.
