I just started this, seems like it's going to be a rather long read for me. anyone have any thoughts to share on this book?

Doug, I read this a long time ago, but I do remember enjoying it very much.  I really liked his "voice" and felt that I was dropped into ancient Rome from the very beginning.  Let us know how things go as you read!

Thanks Vicky, will do. I've only made it through one chapter so far. The print type seem much smaller than I'm used to and I'm finishing up another book so hopefully after that I'll make a little progress.

I also read both books on Claudius by Mr, Graves years ago and recall that I liked them both very much too.  Claudius sounds like Sir Derek Jacobi to me from the Masterpiece Classic series.

That small print is killer anymore!  That is one of the reasons I love my Kindle so much, being able to boost the font size.  wink

Cheryl, I love Derek Jacobi!  He IS Claudius (when he's not Brother Cadfael, that is!)

Vicky did you ever see him in the BBC Shakespeare series doing Richard II?  He was terrific in that as well and I loved him as Brother Cadfael!

Doug, I remember struggling through this one a bit but I thought the ending was so worth it.  It's one that has stayed with me.  However, I never got to the sequel, Claudius, the God.
