I don't know if anyone else is having this problem but for about the last week when I click on a link in PBS even to open up a book page I'm also getting another page open that is SPAM.  McAfee pops up this is a dangerous site or some message like that.  I use Mozilla and I thought maybe I had a virus so I ran a deep scan with my spyware which removed a few I guess unrelated threats because I notice it is still happening today.  It doesn't seem to be happening with other internet sites.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

As a tour guide, I haven't heard anyone else mentioning this yet, and am not having the problem myself.  I just poked around on the internet.  Apparently if you open a spam email, it's possible for it to run a java script that takes over some of your cookies.  One blogger says it "nicks the cookies off your system. which they can then use to take over a session on some website you've visited, for example. You probably wouldn't even know they've done it."

If that's what it is, deleting your cookies may solve it.  If it's a virus, it'll be more complicated.  Someone else more computer savvy than I may have other suggestions.

I had already deleted all cookies, so I did it again and ran a registry cleaner and I still had the problem.  THEN I just happened to remember that one of the Mozilla add ons Adblock Plus had just had an update.  I decided to explore its settings and lo and behold there was a check next to Allow some nonintrusive ads. NONINTRUSIVE?????   I decided to uncheck it and see what would happen.  It seems to have worked!!  My computer sped up also.  Thanks Patty.  I'll let you know if it comes back.

Wow!  Thanks for that info.  I'm sure other members will be running into this, too.
