I was a little disappointed in the beginning of this book being that this book was in high demand on the website.
Romantic Times gave it a 4 star scorcher rating. I guess all the sexual shenanigans of mostly secondary characters made it a scorcher. But finally about 170 pages into the book, the hero and heroine finally have some quality time together, not searching though a brothel, a madhouse, and other nefarious locations. When the plot finally comes around to the hero's and heroine's temptations, their growing intimacy, and the danger surrounding them, the author tells a very interesting story.

The story starts out slow, with little teases to keep you going, and finally builds into a really good romance/mystery. The main characters, and even the secondary characters, are interesting and flawed; everyone has a backstory. All in all, I would rate it a notch above the average Regency romance.

The back cover of this book makes you think it will be erotic fiction but it really isn't. Quite tame really - harlequin romance type book in the end.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. If flowed from one event to another without a lot of angst (ugh!) and self recrimination. The H/H worked together to solve the problem and fell in love along the way. The author ignored a few propriety items, but the heroine was a widow, after all, and it is fiction.
