Author: Timothy Schaffert
Timothy Schaffert has created his most memorable character yet in Essie, an octogenarian obituary writer for her family s small town newspaper. Delightful, intriguing, yet comfortable to the point that I wanted to meet the characters. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book for so many reasons! (Won't go into detail of story line, you can read in book summary.)
That the book is told by 83-year old obituary writer is unusual in itself; that the lost girl may not have existed is unusual as well. Then we have the potential loss of the small town, and the reunion of adult daughter and teen. Many stories within stories, all very well told by Essie. My only reason for NOT giving 5 stars is the ending, or lack of ending. I felt cheated; unless author is going to write a sequel, the ending was too scattered. But this book makes me want to read all of Schaffert's other books!
