So I just finished this book. It has been one of my favorite movies for quite a while and when I discovered that it had been a book I just had to have it!! so I finished it and I was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't sure what to expect from it but it was quite good. not in my top 10 good but still pretty fun to read. and I was impressed at how well the movie followed the book.  there were a few liberties taken but they didn't really change the story at all!

Has anyone else read this? and if so, what did you think?

Very good satirical novel.

I love the book - especially the three star description parts! When I was growing up my Mum always referred to the dish scrubber as her 'liddle mop', which was funnier once I had actually read the book!

I laughed out loud the last time I read it at Reuben's preaching and all the sinners quivering in their pews.

It's a great book! I re-read it regularly.

I have read this a couple of times, and seen a few movie versions.  I read it after seeing the made-for-TV BBC version in the mid 70's.  It is considered a modern classic and I agree - it is very funny.  Love Big Business and Something Nasty in the Woodshed.
