I just finished this book yesterday and would have to put it in my ten best books of all time.  It grabbed me from the beginning, had characters that I felt with, who made sense to me, and just enough descrition so you could see the events without being bogged down in adjectives.  I will caution that if you are prone to nightmares, don't read this one at bedtime.  Most of the book is pretty positive or at least tame on horror, but there are three or four sections (only one or two pages each) that are pretty graphically scary.  Anybody else read it and have an opinion?

It's been at least ten years since I have read this, but it's always been one of my favorites, and I still have my copy.  Koontz is hit and miss with me, but Cold Fire and The Bad Place really shine.  If you've never read The Bad Place, you should check that one out too.  Both are on my keeper shelf.

Amanda, I'm the same way with his novels.  I was a huge Koontz fan in high school.  I loved Phantoms.  I tried for weeks to get through Strangers and couldn't do it.  It kinda turned me off him for a while.  But I read the Husband last month which I also enjoyed so he's no longer person non-reada.  I will have to go see if a boxer has the Bad Place.  I'm sure they do!

I read this book over 15 years ago I think. I can't even remember what it was about. I was also a huge Dean Koontz fan back in the day but haven't bothered to read any of his newer books. I do have a copy of his most recent release in my TBR pile. I picked up a nice new copy for $2 at the Goodwill. I have a copy of The Bad Place on my shelf if you can't find a boxer who has it.

I really liked this Koontz one too.  I really liked Intensity too.  Have you read Odd Thomas yet?  I loved it but haven't read the 2nd book in the series yet.  I happen to be reading Icebound right now.

I like Cold Fire and Lightning. I haven't been too impressed with his newer stuff, with the exception of the 'Odd' series. The end of the first one seriously bummed me out.

Velocity was pretty good. But The Husband was utter crapola. One of the few books I ever returned to the bookstore for a refund.

I just finished forever odd. it was a really good story.

I read cold fire years ago, I still have it (I think). I'll have to check on it again and maybe revisit it. I've read just about all of Koontz's books. I really love the frankenstein series and I liked strangers. He seems to be taking on a more spiritual side lately though.

Cold Fire was alright.  I did figure out what was going on before it was revealed, which made me happy.  Before that I thought it was really weird.   It was the first and only I've read by him.

I just ordered Odd Thomas in a deal and I also have Prodigal Son (Frankenstein series bk 1) in my TBR to read besides The Darkest Evening of the Year.  My taste in books has evolved into something different so unless he's improved or changed his style of writing in the last 10 years, I'm probably going to find them only ok as well.
