Having read/listened to a number of Higgins' books, I have come to appreciate his writing style very much. For those of you familiar with is books, I'm afraid that you'll find this one not quite up to the level of "The Eagle Has Landed" (in itself a fantasric tale!), but how many consecutive homeruns do you hit? Even falling a little short of "Eagle", this book is worth the listening effort, and stands on its own merit. If I'm in a World War II mood, I usually swing to Patrick Robinson's books, but Higgins is noteworthy as well. You can't go wrong with either of them. Higgins does give you a different perspective since he actually lives in the "Channel Islands", and is adept at capturing the melancholy of that stretch of water. The storyline has an abundance of twists and turns, so you are never really sure of what will happen next (if you were, why pick up the book in the first place?) Good characters, some you love, some you learn to hate! Lots of suspence, and it gets you out of your favorite chair and drops you back in the middle of a WWII French Resistance/British Navy wartime adventure. Good escape vehicle from the humdrum of everyday realities.
