This is a great book about the bond between people and their dogs. From the cover...Colter pairs one of America's most treasured writers with our most treasured "best friend." Colter, a German shorthair pup, was the runt of the litter, and Rick Bass took him only because nobody else would. Soon, though, Colter surprised his new owner, first with this raging genius, then with his innocent ability to lead Bass to new teritory altogether, a place where he felt instantly more alive and more connected to the world.
Rick Bass writes another beautifully descriptive book about life in Montana. This time he delves into his passion for bird hunting and pointer dogs. He finds Coulter the runt of the litter one early spring day when his neighbor drives up to his home with 2 young puppies. The other dog is spoken for and Rick decides to take the runt. Coulter in Rick's opinion turns out to be the "best" bird dog he's ever had both for hunting and for loving.
Beautifully written this book is a love story to Coulter and a celebration of his love of the hunt.
