I love dog books. The first 120 pages had the voice of a victim by the owner and his wife who are owning their first dog since childhood. The parents are convinced by their 12 year old daughter to adopt a rescue dog who is returned to the shelter by a previous adoptor. The dog is terrified by men and is an escape artist. The relationship heals by the end of the book and several years later. The book dragged at the beginning but by the end it was good.

This book will resonate with anyone who has ever rescued a challenging dog. It also is filled with the joy of being patient and finding empathy with a dog with issues. A lovely ode to all that dogs can give back to us when we take the time to listen to them.
