Yet another twist on what makes a human a vampire Squires creates Ian, a human made vamp and left to die by the woman he hates above everyone else. Elizabeth, reluctantly returning to England from Egypt, meets Ian and from old writings deduces most of Ian's secrets. Strangely she sees good in him and cannot fear him. Can Ian and Elizabeth find a cure for Ian's condition...and does he want to when the Companion in his blood may be the only thing which can protect them from his tormentor. A stand alone story with character ties to other of her books.

A bit slow at times. The language is a little technical for me (I don't know the parts of a large ship, or types). But overall a pleasant read. And a very appealing vampire.

It took me a while to get into the story and I do like paranormal and and regency romances separately. About half way through (when they get off the boat) I finally started to enjoy it more probably because they were finally in England which is what I equate with a 'regency'. The writing is very atmospheric and detailed. Sometimes a bit too detailed. I enjoyed the last half of the story very much. Good characters and though it's part of a series, it's definately a stand alone book.

A great vampire read. Very dark and erotic at times, with full-bodied characters, fast paced, highly entertaining. 4.5 stars.

Darker story than I like. It's depressing in places.
