During these years he watched the trial and error development of many tricks by other riders and also created or developed stunts of his own.
From the latter half of the 1920's to 1964 a period of about 36 years, Frank Dean was a well known trick rider. As a writer his first work appeared in Popular Science and Popular Mechanics with short photo illustrated pieces. In 1938 his first rodeo oriented article appeared in the Hoofs and Horns magazine. Later he wrote many articles for the Western Horseman magazine. In 1969 they published his instruction book on rope spinning titles, Will Rogers Rope Tricks. Frank's books and articles are not just re-hashed material put together from reading someone else's prose but are attempts to further the recorded knowledge of cowboy sports and pastimes.
The Trick and Fancy Riding text covers every phase of the subject from the reader's first interest in learning to his or her final preparation for the professional performances.
