I have the following special condition on my book requests.

Any computer book that is supposed to include a CD, should have the CD.

Contact me if it doesn't have the CD.

I just lost out on two books because the person said they didn't have CDs.  BUT the books aren't supposed to have CDs.  And my request to contact me if it doesn't have the CD was ignored.

What more can I do?  Should I remove the condition and PM the person about each book?

Well, PBS  guidelines state that books that are suppose to have media have the media with them or they are not postable.  But, it doesn't hurt to restate that in conditions...it would be your choice risk getting books that are suppose to have media and don't because they were posted and not suppose to be OR risk not getting books because people misread or don't understand your RC's or won't send to people with RC's.

You ask people to PM you, do you include your ID or an email for them to contact you in your RC...otherwise you are asking that person to risk loosing their place in the FIFO line in the event you don't want the book.

Have you showed someone your RC to see if it is clear?

If you don't often order books with CDs, then why not turn off your requestor conditions until you plan to order a book that has that requirement?  That sounds like it might solve your problem.

I just removed the RC.

BTW, Christy, the poster would not lose her position in the FIFO queue because most of the computer books I request have at least 2-6 people wishing the book.

Cindy, I'll remember about the requirements about getting credits back if the book doesn't come with a CD.  Actually some of the books that come with CDs mostly have programs that you can download the latest version anyways, but there are some that have all the examples on the CD and you can't go to the Publisher site and download them.

I was going to suggest what Kim did.  Turn the RC off on books that never had a CD to begin with.  If all your WL books are on autorequest-I think this means you'll have to take them off.  But it'll give you 48hrs to respond so if it's a book with a CD you can turn the RC on before you accept.

Charlene, partly you were dealing with people who weren't thinking, probably, but another thing is that the rules for RCs, in the Help Center, state that we *should not* request a PM in RCs.   Personally, I decline those every time.

If you want to try it again, I would suggest you word it more as a reminder of the PBS Guidelines.  That, too, is going to upset some people, but I think it goes over better overall.  (some people just turn down RCs out of hand, so you can't avoid it entirely no matter what)
