This book seems dated in some ways, but it's still a very valid and useful guide to beginning programming. That being said, I'm sure there are better ones out there. But, this one is currently fairly easy and inexpensive to get, while some others might not be. So, it may be a good place to start. Please note: this book isn't really meant to teach you programming, so much as it's meant to teach those with absolutely no experience with programming the basic concepts behind it.
