Okay, so I decide to get my Bookshelf Books reorganized because I have them divided alphabetically amongst five cardboard boxes.  And as things go, maybe I hastily threw a book in the wrong box or did an off-line trade or whatever.  Stuff happens over a couple of years, right?  Hey, I'm Spring Cleaning something.  So I run off my Bookshelf Book list (ELEVEN PAGES!!!!) and start laboriously checking each title off.  And I find about fifteen books that aren't posted but are in my trade boxes.  Okay, that's good.  And most of the books are where they are supposed to be.  BUT...I am seeing titles that I am SURE I remember sending out.  So I go to my transaction archive and sure enough ...  For example, the transaction archive is showing I mailed a book 6/5/07 and it was received 6/12/07.   But it's still on my Bookshelf.  I KNOW I didn't have two copies and there's no way I could have re-entered it because once it was received and off the bookshelf, I didn't have the ISBN.  And I know PBS won't let you have the same book (with the same ISBN) listed twice on your bookshelf because I DO have two copies of Dick Francis' "The Edge" and it will only accept one.

So, if my transaction archive shows the book was mailed and received (w/o problems), but it is still on my Bookshelf, did I or did I not receive a credit?  I haven't been keeping track and frankly, I can have days when I send out ten books at a time or have ten books marked as received, and I am not a bookkeeper (no pun intended).

Does anyone know what's going on?  Have you had this happen?  Also, I noticed, for example, that a couple of books I just received were showing up on my Bookshelf.  What's that all about?  Not a big deal, I read so fast I would have listed them in a day or so anyhow, but isn't that odd?  And it's not ALL the books I received, just a few, and I didn't mark them to be listed.

Anyhow, thanks for your thoughts.  :^)  (See, I knew Spring Cleaning was bad for you!)

Have you checked your transaction archive to see if the books are there? That would be the way to see if you received credit or not.

I'm not sure what you are asking.  If I go to the transaction archive and define as "books sent by me" the title shows up and that---as I exampled---was sent 6/5/07 and received 6/12/07.  How else could I have that info if the receiver didn't mark the book as received?  But it (the example book) is still on my Bookshelf.  So, did I get the credit when the receiver got the book?  But if the computer didn't recognize it as "received" and didn't take it off my Bookshelf, then would it give me my credit?  That is what I am wondering.  At what point does the glitch cease?

Darlene, when the person marked the book received, you would have gotten credit.  I think that happens automatically-it must.

is this book on your bookshelf "on hold" (with a little circle over the green check to the left of it)?  If it was a book you received from PBS, and it was on your Books to Repost list (if you didn't remove it from there when you reposted and sent out the book), then when that list was combined with the bookshelf, the book would have gone onto your Bookshelf on hold.  I know that happened to me when the repost list and bookshelf were combined--all kinds of books I had received from PBS and then sent out again appeared on my bookshelf on hold.  I just deleted them.

Otherwise, is it possible you posted this book twice?  You will see the date that the one on your bookshelf was posted, listed on your bookshelf.

Do they have a little ghost buster symbol around the checkmark on your shelf? This would mean they are on hold there and others cannot order them. The recent update to our bookshelves combined the old Book to Repost list that had all the books we'd received through PBS. If you hadn't cleaned that list out before the merge, you'd get a lot of books transferred to your shelf  that you'd already sent out. All of them came over to your shelf on hold. You just need to clean them back out. You can resort your shelf by hold and them mark them all and delete at once.

The books you receive do go onto your bookshelf on hold too, when you mark them received (unless you uncheck a box you see telling you the book will go onto your bookshelf on hold while you are marking the book received).  So that explains the second part of your post.

The Help Center info on the bookshelf change is here: Bookshelf Upgrade

Edited to add: melanie, your explanation was a lot more coherent than mine! :)

Some people will, as a courtesy, mark requests received before actually receiving them if they have gone on vacation, etc. as they won't otherwise be able to mark them received in a timely manner..

If you go into your credit registry it'll show you when it added and took away credits and for what books.  My guess is, like the others said, that you got these books from PBS and they were on your books to repost list.  There was much confusion when they combined the bookshelf and books to repost list.  I don't like the extra books on there either. I had to delete quite a lot of them at first because I had already sent them out.  It doesn't really take much effort to type the ISBN in and repost the book. So I try and keep them off there until I'm actually ready to post them.

Darlene--Look on your bookshelf, and see what the "posted" date is.  I found a couple of books on my pbs bookshelf that  I'd sent out, but research showed that I had actually reposted them between the time they were requested and the time I mailed them.

I was reorganizing my bookshelf at the time, and since the books were not listed on my bookshelf (because they'd been requested, but I didn't think of that at the time) they went into the pile of books that I was posting.  Just a possibility.

I agree with you, Peggy.

Hey, what book did that dragon quote come from?  I may have to try a new genre...

Hey Dar,

I have had this happen to me before, and what's more is that I have had the book requested again. So I had to scamble to get another book to send out to the second person that requested the book. Thankfully, I have so many books in my TBR mountain that I did indeed have another copy since the first one I posted was a duplicate. Which to say is that I hadn't read the book yet and I sent it out anyway. I had asked the power's that be why this happended but I never got an answer. I also asked why all the books we receive now have to go through this process of automatically being on our bookshelf even though no one else can see the books until you're ready to post them. When you receive a book now you get the question if you'd like it to stay this way (listed on your bookshelf) or would you like to delet it, I always delete them. I get confused enough as it is. As for receiving the credit or not that's a really good question. I hope you get an answer to that one my friend. There still are major glitches in the "new" and "improved" PBS. I liked the old PBS it was less complicated.

Now I want to know why I can't purchase credits!? I all of a sudden find myself totally out of credits which is a rare thing for me and I have a very much wanted wish list book just come up. I have gone to the kiosk to purchase credits and I can't click on it for some reason. I really want this book, so I'm at odds as to what to do here.

perhaps you should try rebooting Jackie...sometimes when I have issues like that that is what I do and it clears it right up.

I was finally able to the credits I needed. I don't know what the problem was but it finally let me.

Jackie, Maybe it was a karmic hint that you should be doing laundry!!!!  LOLOL!

I'm still confused, but I'm kind of teetering between the explanation of the merge thing and the time and space continum thing.  Either way, I'm going to go pop in and tidy things up and then watch and see what happens.

That was interesting about the credit registry.  I didn't know that.  I really do need to start reading the fine print!

Thanks for all your suggestions!  :^)
