I just finished my copy of Water for Elephants (ISBN 9781565125605). In my TBR list for that book I see W(A) which tells me the book will get requested quickly. If I search for that ISBN and add it to my reminder list there are several copies already available. I'm confused by the conflicting info.

Am I looking at a glitch or am I missing the obvious?

I added it to my reminder list and see 7 copies available. I'm also allowed to order the book. I guess a glitch?

I also see a WA if I add it to my reminder pile but have the option to order it from the info page.  Is it possible someone has it wishlisted on autorequest but has their account on hold while copies are building up in the system?

ETA: Nevermind, I just looked at the help docs and my autorequest on hold scenario doesn't work (should have done that first).  It must just be a glitch.

I had that on a Luana Rice book for a long time, available in the system, but showing a green Wa so I would guess it is a system glitch.

I have a Christina Dodd book that also has the green Wa but has books in the system. I too thought it was maybe someone with an account on hold. After reading Stephanie's comment I would have to go with it being a glitch.

I noticed that Water for Elephants glitch a while back, because I was reading it and then posting it.  I saw the "Wa" on it but then when I went to the book detail page, it had copies available for order.

That's really odd. There's still a WL of over 300 for various bindings. When I just did a book search 2 different isbns came up but of course neither of those is one of the WL books. There must be 12 or more various editions that are wish listed.

Account that wish listed the available book is on hold and has zero credits available.

Criskat, holy molee, there are a lot of editions for Water for Elephants with wish lists .... so I guess the system is right when I look at my remainder list ... there are wish lists requests waiting ... just not for the ISBN I have.  Guess I'll do a little research before I pick a book off my TBR pile to read if I'm hoping to turn it around fast if I need to earn a quick credit.

When I was ordering a lot of books and had a high wish list, I remember receiving e-mails notifiying me that a 'similar' book had posted for a book on my wish list. Does that feature still exist?

Yes, Shirley the similar book offers are still a part of the system here. It is a wonderful service since it matches the title and author not just the isbn.

so I guess the system is right when I look at my remainder list ... there are wish lists requests waiting ... just not for the ISBN I have. - the reminder list should only have the W if that specific ISBN is Wishlisted, PBS doesn't mix them, each ISBN is individually tracked.

One thing that has worked for me is to Tag the Wishlisted ISBN that is similar to mine with something like "Trade paperback (or whatever version you have) available under ISBN XXXXX". That usually gets them ordered pretty quickly.

Melanie, I thought that was how it would work too, but what I'm seeing doesn't support that premise. The ISBN I have, 9781565125605, shows W(A) in my TBR list. The number of copies available for this ISBN in my reminder list is now 9, which is up from yesterday.

If a wish listed book is linked to only one ISBN, then I'm getting the impression that wish list books cycle very slowly through the request cycle. With the number of members waiting for other editions of Water for Elephants, I'm really surprised to see this many copies supposedly available for a title with a high wish list count.

Yup, it doesn't, but I am pretty sure it is some type of system glitch and not that the system is marking it a WLed because other versions are WL. That would make the WL marking essentially worthless because there are alot of books with only one version WLed. The W should mean that the book will immediately go into some type of WL hold.

I agree it is really hard to believe how many books of one edition can be in the system, while others of similar format have long WLs. I've seen one with something like 100 wishers on a paperback version of a book, while another paperback with the same cover art had more than that in the system. I couldn't figure out the difference. I know the copy of WFE that you are talking about because I've picked up some copies at the thrift store to post and was surprised when it didn't go right away (didn't have the deceiving W at the time though). Luckily there weren't many in the system and advertising my copy got it ordered quickly.

Or the ISBN you have may have a Wisher that the others have declined sending their books, due to Requester Conditions? Just an idea.

Cheryl, you just might be right. I posted the book yesterday .. it went into pending hold. 2/12/09 3:24 PM ET. Waiting for 48 hours for member. So far ... no answer. Now the inventory is down to one copy from the nine I saw earlier this week ... guess mine is the only one available now for that ISBN.
