Has anyone read The Corn King and the Spring Queen by Naomi Mitchison?

The description reads, " Tale of murder and revenge and of lasting love set in the Classical world several centuries before Christianity. First published in 1931, this is Naomi Mitchison's masterwork".

That sounds like something I'd love, but I'm having a hard time getting into this book. If any of you have read it, should I keep going? This book is huge, over 700 pages!
