I went in to get a book with my credit and now it costs $4.19 and a credit. What is this?

You are probably looking at the option to purchase the book directly from PBS via the PBS Market.  Sounds like you want the option to use a swap credit to get the book from another member.

Wish I knew how to do a screenshot, I'd show you what they look like.  But basically, go to the book you want.  Ignore the option that says 'Buy This New' (that's the option that costs credits and money), also ignore the 'Buy From Amazon.com' button, and look for either the button that says "Order This Book" in blue letters *OR* If the book is not available in the system at this time, you will want the the option to "+ Wish List" and PBS will notify you when the book is posted FIFO for you.

The free/credit books will not have both options (order & wishlist), they will have one or the other.  If it is a book that PBS admin sells to members, you will see the option to 'Buy This New' and the cost information usually listed as some combination of credits and PBS money.

Carol--

It sounds like you clicked on the "Buy this New" link which will order a book from the PBS Marketplace.  This is different from the "Order this book" which places the order with another PBS member.  I'm pretty sure the "Buy This New"/PBS Marketplace is only available for books that there are no copies in the system for swapping.  (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong).  So, what this means is that if you want to order a used copy through the traditional PBS system, you'll need to add the book to your Wish List, and wait for a copy to become available.

ETA--Denise did a much better job of explaining than I did LOL!

Yes, PBS now offers some books for sale (and that would be the cost plus the credit). However, for any book that is posted, you are able to order it from another member, same as always. Or, if no copies are posted, to Wish List it, same as always.

You're wrong. You can buy new copies of posted books. smiley

Here we go:

NewPicturejpg.jpg

The blue "order this book" button will order a used copy from a PBS member. The green "buy this new" button will talk you to the PBS market. You probably accidentally hit the wrong button, or if no copies of the book are posted the green button would be the only one there. I've accidentally clicked it many times myself.

Using Lisa's nice example, if the book is not available used in the system the "Order This Book" button would be gone.  Instead, the "+ Reminder" button would be replaced by the button to place the book on your Wishlist.

Thanks for the correction Sara!  And it's very evident in Lisa's example, that books with copies available for swapping can indeed by offered in the PBS Marketplace as well.
