I had ordered and read this books for a 20th century American Novels course. Although the narrative frame was very interesting and that seemed to be what was pointed out most by the professor, I felt a different book would have better suited this (i.e. O'Brien going after Cacciato). The subject matter in the novel is slightly controversial which is why I felt the conversation surrounding this work by Roth did not focus much on that. Novel brings up interesting points/themes, but this is not one of my favorite novels by any means. Plus, none of the characters are very likable/relate-able

This is unlike any book Philip Roth has written before. A book of astonishing 180 degree turns, conflicting perspectives and points of view and his most radical work of fiction.
