I am having so much trouble gettng into this book!  I have skipped around to find an interesting character or event and all I find is bunk...........  Is it me?  I thought a new series by Ward would be good as I tired of her BDB.

Mine is sitting on my tbr pile because I'm afraid to read it, lol.  It has gotten some ok reviews and some really bad reviews, so we'll see.  I have to say I completely lost interest in BDB after the first 3 or 4 so I'm hoping I will like this one since it is not the same.

I loved the BDB books, but a coworker gave this book a really bad review so I am afraid to read it. She said the biggest thing was that you didn't get to know the characters and thus did not care for them at all. Shame, I had high hopes for this new series.

Oh say it isn't so....I loved the BDB...read all the books at least twice and some of them 3 times.  I have such high hopes for this 2nd JRWard series.  After all, because of this series we are waiting a WHOLE Fing YEAR for the next BDB book.

Anyway this one is on by TBR pile and I should get to it early next week.  I'll let you know what I think when I'm done.

I loved it :) I will admit that it took about 100 pages or so to get into it, but once "there" I really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to the next one I read all the reviews about people who didn't like the book too and decided that I was going to go into it with an open mind. Lots of times I really like books that other people don't care for. Not sure why, exactly, that is LOL. Anyway, FWIW I am one who really liked the book

Is it necessary to read the other series first, or can Covet be read completely independently?

Anne----Have you read the BDB yet?  I personally don't think that you have to read it to read this one.  I will eventually go back to it to see if it does get any better as Dory said.  I haven't run into any characters that cross the 2 series, but I just scanned it.

No Norma, I have the series TBR but haven't read any of them yet. I also have Covet, was thinking I should just read that one first....unless it will turn me against the author!

I agree that this one was a little hard to get started but once I did, I loved it.  Can't wait for the second one to come out now!  I like that there's some "crossover" from the other series too.

BDB is (so far) much better but I really love JR Ward and have confindence that the new series will  reach it's stride in the next book.  You do not have to read BDB before reading Covet.  There are a couple cameo's because the location is the same but that's it.  Maybe in future books their might be more in depth cross-overs but I kinda doubt it.

Just finished Covet last night.

It has nothing to do with or even references the BDB series.  With that said I have to say I love the BDB series more than this first work in the new series.

It took me about a third of the book to get past the "come on....come on already" syndrome I was having cuz the book seemed slow.  However I see now that maybe it was just laying out the series and the characters for both this book and future books.  My favorite genre is paranormal romance and this book is not written in the standard fare that I'm use to with those books but you know what......I ended up enjoying the book.  Around the last third of the book I was actually looking forward to reading the rest.

I liked the characters but it was (and kind of still is) hard to get with Jim in his role as the main character.  My favorite character - Dog.  I can't wait to see what's up with him - there's a secret there I'm sure! :)

Yes I will read the next one.  I have to say that I'm worried that if a battle is lost in one of the seven then maybe I won't enjoy the books because I'm a HEA kinda gal.

Well geez - I wrote so much here that I guess I can call it a review, huh? Guess I'll copy and paste it for a review then!

I finished this last night.  I did like it.  It is not as good as the BDB but I was very pleased with it.  I am looking forward to the next one and am curious if they will all be HEA endings?  If so, then only 4 are needed for there to be a win on the side of good????

I just finished it about 20 minutes ago and love it.   It must be very difficult for an author of a much loved series to break away and write something different knowing there will naturally be comparisons.   I LOVE angel and demon, heaven and hell stories so this was a winner but it isn't the romance or even edgy erotic type stuff you were used to in BDB.  You don't have to read the BDB series but there are some references to some BDB stuff like that the heroine worked for ZeroSum (club in BDB) and bumps into an unnamed guy who is one of the BDB boys.  Shout outs but not distracting--a little prize nugget for the fans I guess:)   The only thing I thought was that there seemed to be quite a few storylines going at one time but the BDB series has evolved into that as well everytime new brothers are added/introduced and the books are trying to still make mention of all of them in each new book--getting a bit crowded which cuts down on the storyline devoted to the "main" two h/h in each subsequent book.
