Hi!  I'm an avid cozy mystery reader and would like to lead a discussion here in this forum.

If you are interested in reading a cozy and discussing it with fellow PBS members, please comment below.

We'd need atleast six commited readers before we start a group.

If all goes well, we can read the book in February and discuss it in March.

The books listed below are #1 in their series and there are atleast ten copies available in paperback.

If you have other suggestions regarding the books we could read, please add the name and author to your comment and I'll add it to the list.

We'll vote on the books as soon as we have six members.

Dying in Style by Elaine Viets

Mums The Word by K. Collins

Murder At the PTA by L. Alden

Some Like It Hot Buttered by Jeffery Cohen

Crewel World by Monica Ferris

I hope you'll join me!

Sandy

We have a cozy group in the September Hot Topics forum. It has been on hiatus for the holidays, I don't usually do the cozies so I'll have to look and see when it starts up again but should be soon.

Deb, the regular leader is incapable of leading a discussion at this time nor in the near future.  So...if you'd like to discuss a cozy mystery...this would be the place to do it.  I'd be very happy to have you join me.

I love cozies! Unfortunately I've read all of them quite awhile ago on the first list. Is this group limited to that list? The list that Carole presented, The Diva Runs Out of Thyme, is the only one I haven't read already. And I do already have it in my tbr.

Just a suggestion ... most avid, longtime PBS cozy readers (not all, by any means) who inhabit these forums regularly are rabid readers of that subgenre. They're well passed the first in a series that have been out for awhile. Most will be like me who might have one or two series that they haven't read but by and large, if they haven't read it by now, chances are they're not interested.

I think a group like this would gain traction with the regular cozy readers if the books were newly published, hot off the press.

Just a thought I figured I'd pass on since there doesn't seem to be much foot traffic on this thread. I play in the games with a lot of the cozy readers and this by and large seems to be the case.

I don't read too many cozies....but I'll give it a go....I think Susan is right, a newly published book will increase participation.  But, if you want to go with one that is in the pbs system, I'll second THE DIVA RUNS OUT OF THYME

I think that has been a problem with all of the reading groups, all the good books are WLed. Most of us don't have a whole lot of time to add new books that we weren't particularly planning on reading to our TBR pile. Cozies are usually pretty quick reads though, they're a little easier to work in than a novel.

The first problem with newly published is getting one.  I do not wish to buy it new, and there is only one used bookstore in the area - not much chance of getting a newly published book there, it is hit or miss on the best days.  If it is WL, it could be months before enough people had one to start discussion.

The thing with starting with book one is to be able to try a new author.  And second, I prefer to read series in order.

All but one of the books on the list I posted I have already read.  But, I would still be up for a discussion of any of them.  So, even if you have already read it, the fun is in the discussion.

ETA: The one I haven't read is Diva Runs out of Thyme, LOL!!

Hi gals!  I understand what you're saying Susan, but as Carole  and Barb have said, it's hard getting enough (if any) of the newly published cozies for a discussion.  I, too like (have) to read the first of a series in any genre in order to enjoy the series.  For the last four months or so I've been reading the #1 books in as many cozies that I can get my hands on and that sound like they'd be appealing to me.  I've weeded out many after reading the first one.  Others I thoroughly enjoyed and have ordered the rest of the books in the series.

In regard to THE DIVA RUNS OUT OF THYME...I bought it at a yard sale and read the back cover, didn't sound like I'd much like it so I gave it to our lending library here in our mobile home park...wouldn't you know it...I checked to see if it was still there this afternoon and it was gone frown.  So, if we have a couple more

readers join us, that will probably be our pick.

I love to read cozies also.  I have only read one of the cozies listed and not even sure that I finished it.  It was the Coffee house series. Just couldn't get into it.

I do already have THE DIVA RUNS OUT OF THYME and have been wanting to start that series.

If you read The Diva Runs Out of Thyme, I'll join the discussion also!  That book has been sitting on my TBR forever.

Hey gals!

It does appear that DIVA RUNS OUT OF THYME is the cozy that we'll be reading.

So far we have:  Carole, Anna, Cynthia, Lynne, myself and hopefully Susan; I think that is enough readers to form a group don't you?  If anyone else is interested we will of course welcome them.

Does anyone need to order the book?  I went back to our lending library this afternoon and guess what? I found it!  It was not where it was supposed to be...whew!...now I don't have to wait on it.

I'll wait to hear from all of you before I set the date for us to begin the discussion.

Thanks for your interest!

Sandy

I'll be on vacation from Feb 16-23.    Of course, I can plan to take the book with me and read in while on vacation.  The good Lord knows I'll be doing LOTS of that on vacation.   But I won't  be able to participate in a discussion until I return.

I got your PM Sandy, I'm in! It'll be a week or so before I can start reading it. I have a couple swap books to at least get started on before I start another one. While I was not working and on workman's comp after two surgeries, I developed a habbit of reading several books at one time. If one turns out to be really good though, the others get left behind! lol

Do we have an anticipated date when the discussion will begin?  I'm trying to figure out if I should take the book with me on vacation next week to read.

Cynthia - I was like you with the coffee house series.  I wasn't sure after I read the first book but after the 2nd they definitely improved.

Cynthia, I love the Cleo Coyle Coffeehouse series!  So much that all of them are on the counter my kitchen as decorations.  They definitely get better, and the relationship between Claire and ex-H Max just gets more crazy, all while she is dating wonderful Mike.  The characters grow and become more interesting.

March 11 works for me!
