Yes, if the book goes 'lost' and does not arrive by that date, you'll get your credit back.  It would probably be good to wait a little longer before ordering another copy though.  Sometimes media mail is just reeeeally slow!  I hope it shows up for you!  =)

yes, you'll get your credit back...another thought is to check where the book is coming from.....if it is coming from Alaska, Hawaii, or an APO address many if not most times those will go lost before they arrive.

I've had (and have) books coming from Hawaii and it always gets declared "lost" before I get  it.  I wait.   Members in Hawaii are really cursed with the fact that they are so far away when it comes to the USPS.

Being in Hawaii, I've actually had very few of my outgoing books go lost and a handful incoming go lost before the date. Those that do almost always arrive within a couple days of the "lost" date if they're coming (meaning they aren't REALLY lost). That being said, I've had a lot that get really close to the date because of the extra long time it can take to get from Honolulu to California (which is where, if scanned, they seem to hit first lol)

From The Help Center; It answers this and many many other questions.

You can expect your book to arrive about a week after it is marked mailed.

  • MediaMail transit times are variable
    • USPS says to allow 2 weeks, but PBS allows nearly 4.
    • Some books cross the country in 2 days!  Some take two weeks to go 100 miles.  MediaMail is inexpensive, not predictable.
  • The average transit time for all books at PBS (including those coming from military addresses outside the US and HI, AK, PR and GU) is 9 days
    • But most books will arrive much sooner than that.
  • If the information on the request says that the book is coming from outside the continental US, your book may take longer to arrive.
    • You can tell where your book is coming from by looking at the right side of the "en route" request.
  • If you are concerned about a book that hasn't arrived yet:
    • You can contact the requestor using the button on the en Route transaction to send a Personal Message.

If you are sending a book to or from outside the continental US, it is a good idea to send a Personal Message to the requestor at the time you mark the book mailed, to let her know the package might take longer than usual in transit

I have had this happen before when getting a book from HI also.  It came about a week after PBS declared it "lost"  PBS will give you your credit back but just hold off or PM the person sending it.  The person that sent me the book from HI said something along the lines of not being to happy with the mailing system in HI sometimes.

Of course now I have been waiting almost three weeks for a book to come from MI when I live in WI so I am getting really frustrated!  sigh

Lisa - you can't always tell - that MI book may have gone to Florida before getting to you!  I have to say that some of the longest waits I've had is for books coming from my own state.  Very annoying!

Ruth - I'm trying to be patient but its hard sometimes, lol!  Its two books I've had on a wish list so I just check my mail eveyday looking for them.  You would think they would come quicker being close but it doesn't seem like it sometimes!  Media Mail is so annoying sometimes :)  Oh well, they should pop up soon!

I know, it's like watching for the water to boil on the stove!  Takes too long.   Now I'm waiting for a book from Hawaii.  I only have 2 books coming in and they will take a while.  I really need to read a lot more really quickly!  ;D

I had an APO one go lost due to being hung up in customs and it was a book with a WL. Of course, after it went lost (but before it arrived about a week later) I was offered another copy. I HAD to accept or risk being booted off the Wishlist altogether. Because you know if I declined the second offer, the lost one from the APO would REALLY go lost and then I'd have none. Fortunately,  it's a WL book, so I was able to list the one copy and am getting ready to list the next one now that the first one got to its recipient.

Hang in there! Chances are it will arrive soon!

I pmed the sender like 4-5 days ago to ask if it had been returned to them or something and they never answered back. It's coming from Cali so it really shouldn't take that long...but ya never know. We'll see if it comes soon.

I've received 2 books from Hawaii and both times it took less than 10 days. Maybe I just got lucky!
