I got a PM from a member that had requested one of my books.  She was wanting to know if I had mailed the book she had requested yet.  She said that she did not have a credit so wanted me to cancel the request.  I had already mailed the book so I was not able to cancel the request.  I PMed her and told her it was already in the mail and she answered that she had gotten a credit so now did not have to stiff me for the book I had mailed.

I always thought you had to have a credit before you could request a book.  Am I wrong is there a way to request a book without having any credits???

Yes. You do have to have a credit before you mail a book.  It sounds like she wanted you to cancel the request so she could get ANOTHER book.

And, don't worry, she wouldn't have been able to stiff you for the book, though it COULD have been a pain.  If she tried to say she never received the book, all the PBS people would have had to do was look in your PM file and see that she was obviously telling a tale.

Thanks for your reply...that is what I was thinking that another book she was wanting came available and she wanted to be able to get it but didn't have a credit to request it with.  I was beginning to think I had missed something along the way.

If it's a new person they might be a bit confused as to how the site works. She may not have realized the credit was taken when she ordered the book.  She may have thought she was supposed to give the credit when she received the book. Just a thought.

Also, didn't you mark the book as mailed when you mailed it out?  It would show up as being enroute to her and already mailed which makes the question odd.

I did mark it mailed before I got the PM...I figure she is either new to the site or had another book come available that she wanted and was hoping I hadn't mailed the book yet so it could be canceled.

Once the wrapper is printed, only PBS can cancel a transaction anyway.

I don't know what she was trying to do...she got the book already so it is a mute point at this time.  I just wanted to be sure that I had it right and you had to have a credit before you could request a book.

I would say that if someone finds a book that they want badly enough but have no credits - they can buy credits from PBS.  I realize that people are on tight budgets, etc., but if the wantin" is bad enough then she/he might find the extra to get thecredit.  It's cheaper than buying it new.

Mary, after the label has been printed the requester can't cancel but the sender can. Ive had many print the label then realize they don't have it or it's damaged.

It is after it has been marked mailed that the sender can no longer cancel and has to have PBS do it. You were only one step away, Mary :)
