This is written in play form, and the characters have layers of issues to deal with. They have individual and social problems, and the resounding crash can be felt when the personal and social come into direct conflict. This could be dry at times, but others my heart cried for the people and their choices. I hope I am never in this sort of situation but at least now I have some insight to grasp the many facets that can arise.

Few serious American playwrights have captured the imagination of the theater public all over the world as has Arthur Miller with DEATH OF A SALESMAN and THE CRUCIBLE. Mr. Miller's plays are rooted in a realistically critical view of American life and propelled by the intense personal conviction of a man who cares what he writes about and writes about something that matters. In THE CRUCIBLE he turns for his setting to the grim days of the Salem witch trials, and brings into urgently brilliant focus an issue that still weighs heavily the progress of American civilization - the problem of guilt by association.

Excellent book that reveals the way a society can get out of control when hysteria takes over reason.
