This is my least favorite of MHC's books. It starts off dark, right off the bat. There is no real happiness in it. Not even in the end. You just want to reach into the book and throttle the heroine for not being smarter. I really didn't care for t.

I would suggest not starting this book unless you have time to completely read it. I read it in one sitting and was upset every time I had to set it down.

One of my favorites because it seems so real! A divorced mother (also an artist) of two young girls meets a rich man at an art gallery. The fall in love quickly and get married and it seems that everything is perfect. Soon she finds out that her new husband has some odd habbits, especially at night, and she begins to doubt her own sanity. VERY surprising ending!

Not my favorite Mary Higgins Clark. I wanted to like the villian so badly. Beautiful visuals and characters. Just not up to par with some of her later books.

Heavy on the hints about an abusive relationship, but still the outcome wasn't quite what I expected. (And she could have taken more time with the ending / wrapup. It was rather abrupt.) A fast easy read, very descriptive.

I couldn't put this book down. It was like watching a horror/mystery movie. I couldn't wait to uncover the mystery. I kept thinking the whole way through, I would have left if I was the main character, Jenny.

A CRY IN THE NIGHT is a story about a divorced mother of two, Jenny MacPartland, who meets a man she thinks is the answer to her dreams. This artist seems like he's everything a woman could ever want, and the strangest part to Jenny is that he's in love with her! It seems too good to be true, and with a mystery of this caliber, it definitely is! Her life becomes of whirlwind of events -- they marry within a month of meeting, move to a Minnesota farm (the quiet is something Jenny's not used to and she becomes lonely and scared especially at night). All of this begins to wear on her and she begins to fear that she's losing her mind. Slowly Jenny learns of her new husband's past, which is more terrifying than she could even imagine. These secrets can lead to the end of her marriage, but worse, it puts not only her life in danger, but also the lives of her two children.

A CRY IN THE NIGHT has a great plot and could be summed up as a mother's worse nightmare come true. This book showcases why Mary Higgins Clark is one of America's best mystery writers of all time. This suspenseful tale will have you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Lots of twists and turns that will keep you guessing about what will happen next makes this one of my favorites.

It was the sort of thing that happened only in fairy tales...One day she was simply Jenny MacPartland -- young, charming, divorced, working in a New York art gallery, struggling to support her two little girls -- the next, she was a princess, lavishly courted by a handsome artist whose exquisitely peaceful landscapes were making him famous virtually overnight. Within a month, Jenny was married to Erich Krueger. She had found her prince, the man she could truly love.

Suddenly wealthy, adored, warmly cared for, Jenny knew she'd grow to love living on Erich's Minnesota farm. Until the lonely days and eerie nights strained her nerves to the breaking point...until bizarre incidents led her to doubt her own sanity...until a chain of shattering events revealed the link to a past more terrifying than she dared imagine -- a past that threatened her marriage, her children, her life.
