(ie. do deals "spoil" you?) I mean... I have a fantastic book shelf... at least to those who are into Red Dress Ink... and I paid a lot of money for them at B&N.  I guess I'm really asking, are you a  bargain shopper or a Reminder shopper?  Just curious...

YES!  And no...  I want what I want, but I'm still only going to try so hard to find it on special.  I'm not much for browsing shelves for hours on end...  I order things all the time, and then see them on somebody's shelf when they're running a big special and go Ack!  I coulda gotten that 3 for 1!  On the other hand, I also order things I might ordinarily bypass, just because they're on special.

When shopping for kids books, I am a bargin shopper.  I only order kids books with deals.  For myself, I order what I want.  If I want a particular author, I will post a line and see if anyone is willing to deal.  If I want a particular book, I am fine with ordering singles. :)

you know, I've wondered this myself! I mostly purchase credits instead of shipping out and I tend to get spoiled to deals. I do order singles and then look at the person's shelf..sometimes I order another at 'full price' if I have extra credits but sometimes just can't find anything else.

If I had a lot of red dress ink book and/or trade size books I paid a lot for I would probably do a larger credit deal like instead of 2/1 maybe 4 for 2 or something and that way I'd pay less for shipping the 4 books and the person would get a good deal too...just my thoughts but I'm checking out your shelf since I like chick lit sometimes!

ETA: wow! you do have a nice shelf! I have probably 1/3 of those at least and liked them!

I should point this out...  You guys who have lots of romances & run the great deals really should post on the Love & Romance forums as often as possible - and put your specials in your sig files.  People who don't regularly check for deals on this forum order from me all the time, just because they see my specials in my signature.  Plus, romance readers are always interested in romance deals, and if they read & post much, it's in that forum.

Nawp, deals don't discourage me from ordering book one by one. Besides, if I'm looking for something special, I'll just head over to the BoB area and go check there. Most times, when I'm looking for a series of book or by a particular author, I can find a great deal there.

I love a good deal - I found a gal before Christmas doing a 4 for 1 with alot of kids books and spent 5 credits, got 20 books and she only spent about $3.50 to send them.  It was a win-win situation.  I also have almost 200 books on my wish list and don't hesitate to spend a full credit on them when they come up.  If there is a book that is brought to my attention and I want it - if it is available I will order it, period.  So for me I wouldn't say deals discourage me from ordering the books I want, but if I knew it was a very available book, I might try to get it on special.

Oh and most children's books and romance type books I only get on special - otherwise I'd go buy them new for the same price.

I use the bazaar because the price of credits is a rip off, i've stopped buying from the kiosk outright and buy my credits from the forum only now, they can charge w/e they want but i aint paying it anymore. And since the price of credit is so high i feel 2 books is the bare minimmum it should be worth.

That's why i constantly offer deals myself, plus the more you ship the cheaper it is. I mailed out 94 books at once 2 days ago for 10.49 if they went out individually it would be well over 100$

So the deals are a definate perk, i probably wouldn't use this site otherwise.

I think that the people you see here posting and browsing are your bargain shoppers and aren't necessarily typical.  If you look at the pulse of PBS, 14000 people have logged on today alone, but your most looked at deal has maybe 300 views.  I think most people order what they want, one at a time.

I tend not to order from deals--it's not worth my time to hunt through someone's bookshelf.

Unless I see a deal that in the title advertises cartoons/manga I tend to ignore it.

Same reason I'm not a boxer anymore--it was too hard to find multiple on someone's shelf I wanted.

Sort of...I just stumbled upon the Book Bazaar and I love the idea that i can get even more books! I'll still order singles if it's on my wish. I don't usually browse looking for stuff.

are you a  bargain shopper or a Reminder shopper?

right now i'm doing most of my shopping off my reminder list.  i'm trying to save at least a few credits right now, but if i get to where i want to shop i'll try to pick out what actually available book i most want right then.  and if there's other things on their shelf from my reminder list, i'll add to my order.

but i'm also checking out the book bazaar.  i got a couple of books a few days ago on a 2/1 that i otherwise would have ordered eventually, but probably not soon.

I very rarely take advantage of a deal.  I have a TBR hundreds long - so I am pretty picky in what I order.

I browse through the Bazaar and if someone is offering a really good deal then I will look through their shelf. The books I order from deals are usually books I didn't even know about and would not have ordered otherwise. For the most part I order Civil War books at the standard one book for one credit rate. I have recently started browsing the books listed today. I sort them by genre and only look at the History- Americas books. I order almost all of my books from there lately.  I collect Civil War books both fiction and non-fiction. My two older children ages 17 and 18 also use my pbs account and order the books they need for school or books that just interest them. They would never bother to look for a deal. They want a book, they search for it, if they find it they request it. I love deals and have got books that I would not have read if I had not came across them on the shelf of someone offering a deal. Someday I am going to get really lucky and someone with alot of Civil War books are going to be offering a deal. I have yet to find a deal on these type books. LYN

No the deals don't spoil me ... I shop both ways and I'm not "married" to either. I have certain books I'd order as a single in a heartbeat and some books I'll only get as a deal. Just depends on how bad I want them, if they're a first or a last in series ... it varies.

I don't always shop off my reminder list eithe although there are a few I should pick up from there pretty soon.

It depends.... the books on my WL are of course picked up at "full price". The same is often true for books on my reminder list. However, the BB is great for picking up books to complete a series or to try out new authors and/or books recommended by PBS members or other sources. I have found many good authors and books via books I have requested via deals. However, I also go out and get a books that I want, if I am looking for them and they are available right away.

I also use BB to buy credits. I usually buy them in a bunch and almost always get a much better deal for those.

Deals don't stop me from ordering singles.  I don't have the patience to wade through alot of bookshelves on the Bazaar.  There is alot of Romance, and I'm just not into it.  I wish folks would post the genre in their subject line in order to attract those who have an interest.

I order both ways. Of course the wishlist books as they come up and if I am looking for a specific book, I will check box o books and if not there, I will just order it from the FIFO line. If I am offered a book from someone I will always check their bookshelf to see if there is anything else listed that I could order to help with their postage. I do check the deals posted though and will try alot of different books this way. I have stumbled onto some that I have really enjoyed!

My answer is yes.

I am always low on credits.  I have a very large WL that I need those credits for.  I rarely, almost never, order a book through FIFO.  I will pick books I want up in deals or box trades.  If it is in the system, chances are there are more than one copy and that I can, at some point, get it without using a whole credit for it.

Occasionally I order a book for someone else, but even then I will usually at least try to get it in a deal by posting here that I am looking for it.

Yes, I will buy anything if it is only a nickel. Anything.

(But I do still do the one credit-one book thing)

Usually if it's a book that only has a low number of credits and is a book I know will get ordered quickly, then I'll just order it for the credit.  But most of my RL books are tagged and I only order them on deals or if someone offers me a BOB.   But this mostly because I have a ton of books already and a cross-country move coming up.  After my move, I'll probably spend credits more freely. I'm not even looking at deals anymore.  I'm not even making and BOB offers just accepting ones made to me if I find something on their shelf.
