She was a bright, industrious, very poor girl who put her way through college only to graduate and disappear. She was the only child of the first marriage of man who became very wealthy, had married again and had two other children. They are all grown now and as their father, they were harsh, selfish, indulgent people. Then there was a cousin who emulated his uncle. When the older man knew he was dying, he made out a will that split his fortune between his cousin and two offspring of the second marriage, but only if his daughter of the first marriage did not claim her inheritance.
