With the changes to PBS I see people posting their personal email in their posts. PLEASE remember that the Book Bazaar is not a Member Only forum. Member Only has nothing to do with the level of membership you have. It means that anyone without being logged into PBS can find your post and get your email address. Someone can just Google and find it. Bots looking for email addresses to spam/scam/ and steal can find it. Its not just available to PBS members, its available to anyone on the internet with a search engine.

If you want to share your email address on PBS, for your own privacy and safety at least put it on your Profile and then put in the post that it is there for contact. Someone does have to log into a PBS account to access your Profile.

Sharing of emails in a public setting like PBS is not recommended and it appears the site admin will remove them from the site. The PM system should be used to communicate with other members.

Melanie,

Can you post this in the willing to give Laacarte member deal thread? I really think they need it in there. Thanks so much! Phil

Ok... I did this. Twice. And both times, TPTB have deleted it from my profile.

Anyone else have this happen to them? Or is it only happening to the members who want to sell some of their credits?

I agree for safety purposes members should not post their email addresses. However, you should advise members to pm each other when PBS took away the ability of many from pming their fellow members!

Email address is one of the things we have "Privacy Control" over.  Isn't it interesting that the only option now is "Only Me"?  The Help Center still lists email address as one of the things you have control over (Last Current 2010):

New Privacy Controls

Upgraded on 6/30/2010.

You can now adjust the privacy controls on your account from a link "Privacy Controls" at the top of the Settings page in My Account. There is also a Privacy Controls link near the top of your My Profile page, if you have created a Public Profile.

You can use the Privacy Controls to decide who sees what about you.  You can choose from "Everyone," "Friends of Friends," "Friends," and "Only Me" to determine who sees your:

  • Profile
  • Last login
  • Personal info (birthday, city/state, email address, telephone number, mailing address)
  • Lists (Bookshelf, Wish List, Friends, Reviews)
  • Number of books you have sent/number of books you have received
  • Online status

We're big boys and girls, we can decide if we want to throw our email addresses out into the world. There are those who do not like to see it pointed out that it's all about the money, and yet...............
