The language is st... more »rictly Dwayne's, and he has used it skilfully to portray the people who touch his life.
When his pregnant mother has to quit work, Dwayne finds a part-time job as a paperboy. Since one route will not supply the $15.00 a week has has to contribute toward familly expenses, Dwayne decides to take on another in his brother's name. In a rundown section of Philadelphia the second route is called "Suicide Seventee" because three paperboys previously have been mugged there.
It therefore comes as no surprise when he is attacked and robbed late one afternoon. In the series of events that follow Dwayne depicts an all-too-familiar world in which violence and compassion, hypocrisy and humor, exist side by side. And yet, what matters to Dwayne is knowing that, although chances are you can't win, you won't lose either, if you know who you are.
