Second in the Dakota series. First & third books are "Dakota Born" and "Always Dakota". Great series of books.

I would actually give this book a 2 1/2 rating if I could. The first book in this series, "Dakota Born", was much better. That one was good enough for me to request this one. Unfortunately this book was disappointing. It was hundreds of pages of buildup, then the resolution of it was only alluded to in the past tense, in maybe three sentences. VERY anti-climatic. Even though I read the first two books of the series, this one was disappointing enough that not only will I not be reading the third in the series, but I think I will spend my time reading other authors.

Second in a heartwarming trilogy. Maddy is drawn to Jeb, a rancher raising bison. But he rejects her overtures until one deadly Dakota storm throws them together. The consequences of that night affect the entire town of Buffalo Valley.

Book 2 of the trilogy. There are a lot of supporting characters from the 1st book that carry thru the 2nd and 3rd books, with multiple story lines. Good book!

Buffalo Valley, North Dakota, has found new life. People have started moving here people like Lindsay Snyder, who came for one year to work as a teacher and stayed, marrying local farmer Gage Sinclair. And now Lindsay's closest friend, Maddy Washburn, has decided to pull up stakes and join her in Buffalo Valley, hoping for the same kind of contentment. And the same kind of love . . .
Jeb McKenna is a rancher, a man who's learned to endure, as the Dakota earth endures. He's raising bison and, by choice, lives a solitary life. Maddy unafraid and openhearted is drawn to Jeb, but he rejects her overtures. Until one of North Dakota's deadly storms throws them together.

These few days and nights bring unexpected consequences for Maddy and Jeb. Consequences that, in one way or another, will affect everyone in Buffalo Valley.

A good read although I wish she had focused more on the main couple than she did. Too many storylines going all at once to really enjoy it as I could have.

This is a good light read for summer. I enjoy this author because she actual has a plot and doesn't write in the typical romance style. You also don't need to read the first book to understand this one

I enjoyed the DAKOTA series, and although some of the storyline was predictable, it was enjoyable getting to know the characters and the charm of the small farming community. . . . however there isn't a Macomber book that I have not enjoyed, whatever that is worth.

I read the entire Dakota trilogy over the last few weeks. This was my favorite of the three. I liked Maddy and Jeb as a couple, more than the others, I guess. Especially Jeb. I like those tragic heroes that can't live without their women, no matter how hard they try. I thought the ending was a little rushed, but you owe it to yourself to read them.

Having lived in North Dakota for four years (many years ago), I think Macomber's depicition of the people is right on.

Lynsay and Gage, a great couple, a multiple friend and family story. Gage has his mother and younger brother at home, and the small town of Buffalo Valley has lost it's school teacher. She meets new people and decides to move to Buffalo Valley and live there for at least 1 year and teach school. Lynsay and Gage argue about a lot of things, but finally their relationship gets off the ground. Love is so deep that it is hard to not share it. Some of the other people in the story like Buffalo Bob Carr and his Buffalo Gal, Merry finally will get together thruout the series of books. Plus a multitude of others. Real life, with family icons like Grampa Joshua and the lady who runs the pharmacy who has helped and guided the town of Buffalo Valley for all of her years.

Buffalo Valley's depressed economy has taken a turn toward recovery in this second installment in Macomber's trilogy set in contemporary North Dakota. Buffalo Bob's bar is flourishing, Rachel's weekend pizza delivery has become a full-fledged restaurant and Sarah has a waiting list for her quilting classes. But the main attraction this time is Maddy Washburn, who bought the failing grocery store and, through clever marketing, has revived the town's interest in shopping locally. One of Maddy's new customers is Jeb McKenna, a farmer who lost his leg from a tractor accident four years before and now prefers a reclusive existence on his ranch to socializing in town. A blizzard sends Maddy into Jeb's arms long enough for the pair to fall in love (thus importing another romance from Dakota Born), but Jeb still considers himself a cripple and refuses to allow Maddy a permanent place in his life. Macomber closes book two with a cliffhanger, leaving readers anxiously awaiting the final installment to this first-rate series.
