The Washington Post called this "Chandler in Dallas!" (punctuation theirs). Many twists and turns, plenty of the classic hard-boiled, "entertainingly cranky" Marlowe-type attitude with a seriously surprising ending. It's always a good sign when it's Penguin Books international who pick up a mystery story to publish.
