Third in series. Seemed to follow the trend of failing movie sequels. It seemed like a good idea to produce, but then... It was tedious and ran out of steam in the middle. The twist at the end was predictable. Sadly, I didn't want to dislike this book, but I did. Boo.
Good book. I haven't located the second in the series so I missed some stuff, but found the characters just as charming. The romance between Katie and Owen, while sweet, was a little tame. I hated the ending, but since a fourth book is due in Jan '08 I expect the situation to be fixed.
Loved it! One of the comments about the book is that it is like Harry Potter grown up and I can't agree more. The magical feeling along with an almost innocence even when involved in dangerous circumstances. There were so many parts that I loved, but I think the dragons were really great. There were only two sad things about the books - that it ended and then the way that it ended. I trust that Katie is just taking a break for a little while and she and Owen will be back together soon. I hope so because I couldn't stand to read another book if they are apart. They are just too great together. And perhaps I'm a little bit in love with Owen myself.
I enjoyed the first 2 books of the series quite a bit so I was eager to read this one as well. I was not disappointed. Just as charming and fun as her previous novels.
I am going to have to disagree with other reviews, however, and say that I DID like the ending. It wasn't happy, but it felt necessary and just makes me more excited for the 4th book. The only downside is that I have to wait till April 2008 for the next installment, which currently is going to be the last as the publisher has declined to publish the 5th book (which was going to be about Owen and his past).
I have read book 1, 2 and 3 now. All 3 books have been really good, but you should know that they dont really stand alone, and each book is just a continuation of the story. This book takes right off the next day after book 2. The author could have easily just written a longer book and kept going, cause book 3 needs to be follow up with book 4. The 3rd book had some better writing techniques, like foreshadowing, word play, modern jokes. Over all this whole series is enjoyable, you will love it.
Very fun with great characters. Easy read.
This book almost reads like a teenagers diary and is a bit cheesy with the talk of their enemies and the ultimate showdown and such. However, if you can get past that it is a fun story and sweet romance. Defiantly clean and absolutely nothing trashy, just sweet. I very much did not like the ending, though. I'm not looking forward to the 4th book as much now that I have read the ending of 3, but hopefully 4 will surprise me.
The book is good ,but moves kind of slow to me.
Yet again I love Swendson's book! Her characters are just so endearing! It was nice to see that Katie and Owen go some more alone time in this book... though it still a bit frustrating waiting for them to take the next step with this relationship. But I guess that does keep me reading.
On a side note her website (http://www.shannaswendson.com/faq.html) says the publisher won't pick up book 5 unless sales for book 3 and 4 pick-up.... so if you are due to be waiting for along time on this book why not buy it? After reading book 4 I still want more!
